Unifying A Colorful Team

Nurturing group morale is a signature of Shirley’s leadership. Understanding that a culture of innovation and creativity entails establishing meaningful connections with colleagues, Shirley has always been at the forefront of in-house events and team building initiatives. This can be traced back to her initial years at the Shenzhen and Guangzhou offices, where she spearheaded employee engagement efforts, all the way to her current post in Hong Kong. Boosting team morale is one of her top priorities.

Across Offices & Cultures

As she moved across the different AECOM offices, Shirley recognized the need for younger professionals to interact with each other to collaborate better. So, she established CONNECT, a series of gatherings, creative events, and mentoring sessions for the studios in the Southern China region. There were over 300 young professionals for CONNECT across 3 offices. Below is a recap video of CONNECT’s achievements in 2018.

Desiring to achieve a similar camaraderie in her team when she moved to Hong Kong in 2019, Shirley sponsored SUNBURST, an employee-driven engagement initiative that spans online and in-person events as well as an in-house social media channel. Sunburst helps organize and document the major gatherings and celebrations for the studio, which have gained praise from other departments and senior executives, and influenced other departments to implement their own versions. Sunburst has produced the most energizing and engaging team morale in the region.
